Why Is My Dog Staring At Me Ignoring Commands?

You are a successful person, and you know it, until the moment your dog stares at you instead of following a command, which makes you question everything. Just like the day you stood in front of your dog and confidently said “sit,” only to receive a long, dramatic, no-blinking stare. Congratulations. You’ve officially reached Level 1 of Dog Parenting: Humiliation by Eye Contact.

dog staring

It is enough to make a man ashamed to be judged mute by an animal that feeds on funnies made of toilet paper. But why is your dog looking at you and not doing what you have asked? And take a look, and take a laugh, some truth, too.

1. Why Your Dog Is Staring at You Like a Slow Wi-Fi Brain

There are occasions when your dog is not ignoring you; it is just loading its brain.

Common internal communication messages are:

  • Command received. Understanding, maybe.
  • What is ‘sit’? Sounds optional.
  • Error processing, retry later.

Some dogs respond instantly. Others have to give the system a complete boost up until they move a muscle.

2. They’re Checking If You Mean It

Dogs are social geniuses. They interpret your face, your voice, your posture, and your emotional frailty.

Their stare might be saying:

  • Are you interested in listening to me?
  • “Is there a treat involved?
  • Are you mad, or is it the way you speak?

When your command does not sound convincing, then your dog places you in the Ignore Mode.

3. Dog Staring Because Commands Confuse Them

Imagine someone telling you: Do be a good blorp of yourself into the chair.

That is what you say to your dog before he is fully trained. In their furry head, they thought:

  • Human is making mouth sounds once again
  • This appears to be significant yet ambiguous.
  • I will gaze till I have a meaning.

Dog Training

Training takes consistency. There is no us; your dog is a bewildered potato.

4. They’re Trying to Telepathically Control You

Dogs are puppy cheaters. They stare because they do know it works.

It is what the dog is thinking:

  • Snacks will come out, in case I stare long enough.
  • Humans will give in. They always do.
  • I can manipulate the treat jar using my mind.

Dog Commands

And that is how you are up and down, giving a snack without making a dime.

5. Your Dog Forgot the Command Completely

Dogs remember weird things:

  • All the squirrels of your neighborhood.
  • The single dog that bawled at them in 2017.
  • Where do you hide the treats?

But commands?
You lose them quicker than socks. There could be something in that glance they are thinking:

  • I knew this yesterday, I swear.
  • Memory not found.
  • What is life?”

6. Dog Staring at You Instead of Obeying

Yes, your dog is staring; it is just that they love you.

Their eyes say:

  • You are my world.
  • My heart beats for you.
  • But I still refuse to sit.

Love is complicated.

7. They’re Testing Your Leadership Skills

Psychological experiments on human beings are being conducted on dogs.

Their internal dialogue:

  • Let us count how many times human repeats the word ‘sit.’
  • Will they begin to do hand signals? Funny!”
  • “This is good entertainment.”

Any dog believes that he or she is the CEO of the house. Some of them actually are.

Final Thoughts

When your dog is not listening, but staring at you, nothing to worry about. Not disobedience, it is personality. Dogs are comical, loving, curious little weirdos who inject fun, mayhem, and unending confusion into our lives.

But in case you desire a shorter number of staring contests and more obedience. There is help
